What is it like to be a Rebuild Ukraine Ambassador?

Rebuild Ukraine is a project organised by the European Youth Parliament to allow young people to provide their perspectives on the reconstruction of Ukraine. The project focuses primarily on economic recovery issues with social and environmental considerations, in the context of Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction and integration with Europe. Several workshops have been held where Rebuild Ukraine ambassadors discussed these considerations and created a Vision Paper for rebuilding Ukraine.

One of EYPUK's members - Krish - is a Rebuild Ukraine ambassador, and helped to put together the 2025 Vision Paper. Below, they have detailed some of their experiences with this project and the importance of youth engagement in international politics.

How I support Ukraine as an Ambassador, and why it’s crucial for us in the UK.

"It was a humbling privilege to be appointed as a Rebuild Ukraine Ambassador last year, ensuring Britain has a voice in the European Youth Parliament’s work on this topic. The initiative started in 2023 and has gained tractions of international support since, having engaged with Embassies, European parliamentarians and more. Since taking on the role, we have conducted many workshops in sub-committees of Ambassadors, each working on a specific topic for our paper “A Sustainable Tomorrow: Youth Visions for Rebuilding Ukraine”. Myself working in the ‘energy security and sustainability’ group, we engaged with Ukrainian energy experts at our summit in Berlin last October to truly understand the energy systems in Ukraine, and take advice on it’s complexities.

I am delighted to be able to announce here that we have now concluded this paper after much consultation and effort, and that I will be on the official delegation of Ambassadors to launch it in Brussels. This visit will include the opportunity to brief MEPs at the European Parliament on our work and how we can cooperate on both Ukraine’s peace and recovery moving forward. I will also be part of the slightly wider group of Ambassadors at the European Youth Event (EYE) in Strasbourg hosting panels and a workshop for attendees who are interested in our work. We believe that it can sometimes be young people who have the best ideas, innovations and solutions; giving others an opportunity to contribute is key for our continued success.

Here in the United Kingdom, I am making efforts to promote our work within local Ukrainian communities and associations who are often delighted to hear about our efforts. Though very crucially, I am meeting with British MPs here and diplomats abroad, informing them about this work that I am so proud to be part of. I am looking at furthering this outreach in setting up meetings with UK Trade Envoy’s, all of this in my vision to keep Britain at the forefront of supporting Ukraine on all angles. Not only for it’s peace and the end of this terrible conflict as the government is tremendously doing, but taking initiative in preparing for the reconstruction of post-War Ukraine - a unique opportunity to act as an example of innovation, sustainable practices and modern infrastructure for the world to follow. A unique opportunity to lead.

It is no secret how dire the effects of this conflict have been for us, from our economy to our energy bills. A safe, sustainable Ukraine is key for the security of Britain. I am immensely proud to be able to contribute to this cause."
